As if being a parent weren't difficult enough!!!
Whether your precious family was formed through a domestic infant adoption, an international adoption, or an older child foster care adoption, the adoption journey is much different then giving birth to your child.
There is no parenting handbook…. Often times the additional “layer” of adoption must be considered. Some families have the need to discuss and work through issues related to attachment, behavioral issues, questions from your child, or questions from extended family and the community.
There is no formula as to when these needs arise. After the adoption is finalized, some families may start to feel the impact of being different even before their child starts school. Others may not face questions or concerns until their child is a teenager. And some adoptees may not begin to question their past until they are adults and starting families of their own. No matter where you are in your journey, Central Missouri Foster Care & Adoption Association is here to help you navigate the road after the adoption.
The Adoptive Parent Network (APN) is a support group for parents of adopted children than meet monthly. The group is facilitated by a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and an Adoptive Parent. Adoptive families of all seasons are welcomed to attend the support group.
