All about advocacy!

Missouri is moving forward in child welfare! This legislative session was a win for resource providers, Adoption Resource Centers, licensing agencies and CD frontline staff. Not to mention, childcare providers received a higher reimbursement caring for the kids we serve.

Critical changes are as follows:

  • 3% Maintence Increase for Resource Providers
  • 10% Increase for Child Care Providers
  • Support to Expand 30 Days to Family/Extreme Recruitment in Central Missouri
  • Support for more Higher Education for Older Youth
  • Support for the “Community Connections Program” for foster youth ages 21-26 (KC area)

These are just of the budget items that passed in this year’s legislative session. Great news for the kids and families we serve in Missouri!

In addition, RPC (Resource parent Curriculum) Train the Trainer training is being scheduled around the state of Missouri. This is a trauma training that is a workshop for Resource Parents. Train the Trainer requires interested participants to have completed the Section 6; Chapter 2 MO CD Trauma Training. Lastly, federally on June 10th the House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Kevin Brady (R-TX) and Ranking Member Sander Levin (D-MI) joined Senate Finance Committee Chairman Orrin Hatch (R-UT) & Ranking Member Ron Wyden (D-OR) introduced new legislation, called the “Family First Prevention Services Act.” Ranking Member Levin explained, ““This draft proposal is focused on a vitally important goal – protecting vulnerable children from abuse and neglect by expanding critical prevention services that would keep kids safe and at home.” The Act will attempt to strengthen families in general and curb unnecessary foster care placements.
